Despite being quite sick this weekend I managed to pull myself off the couch yesterday + go checkout the Leslie Hindman Marketplace auction preview...and man am I glad I did! I was like a kid in a candy store the second I walked into the preview and saw this amazing display of Donald Baechler art. Look familiar?
Even if you’re not an art aficionado, you might well recognize Baechler’s work. His graphic, sometimes humorous, depictions of flowers, skulls and other objects are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Centre George Pompidou in Paris. Still not ringing a bell? Well then you’ll certainly recognize these works that have graced the pages of magazines like Elle Décor + Domino...
Skull’ by Donald Baechler hangs on a foyer wall of interior designer, Jim Aman's NYC home.
Baechler's work hangs in Aerin Lauder's Hampton's home
and in Rashida Jones' apartment published in Domino, February 2008.
A colorful Baechler floral print hangs in Laura Garcia's dining room, featured on Vogue.com.
And finally a blingin' example of Baechler's work, The Lucky Ring, hangs in an office designed by Robert Passal (above) + in Ashley Stark's turquoise bedroom.
There are two lots of Donald’s work for sale at this week’s Leslie Hindman auction -- Flowers and Trees, 1990 (a group of six works) which is estimated to sell for $1,500-$2,500 and Days of the Week II, 1994 (a group of seven works) with a lower estimated sale price of $1,000 -- I can’t afford either right now so any takers?
God, I love that last room!
