Rich in Milan

Scrolling through Pinterest last night I instantly fell for the twentieth century Milanese palazzo home of a creative designer Ernesto Pigni.  While a little surprised to be drawn to such deep shades at this time of year, I could hardly tear away from the richness of the colors and textures -- chalky monochrome walls and curtains, a cobalt chair made of clay, a pop of yellow, glazed turquoise...oh and how I love that rich, green velvet ottoman with the brass base. I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself but the second August 1st hits and I notice the sun starting to set a little earlier, my mind immediately thinks Fall...

Happy Thanksgiving!

My posts have been few and far between this week because I've been having too much fun hanging out with my family and boyfriend to even think about opening my computer! But before I take off to celebrate with my family in the suburbs I thought I would check in and thank you my dear readers, design lovers, and commenters. Thank you for following along as I share my adventures, ideas and passion with you each week. Your encouraging comments have made writing Simply Smitten a whole lot of fun! Happy Happy Thanksgiving!

Enter Autumn

I can't stop starring at this sublimely decorated entry hall from the March issue of VerandaDavid Netto is a genius.  The chalky William Kent style console and geometric marble floor in shades of black, white, and tan are insanely gorgeous but what I really love is the green felt table with bullion fringe. This space has the perfect mix and feels warm and inviting.  So with fall right around the corner (only 3 days away), I couldn't help but gather some items inspired by this look.

Here's all you need to be chic this autumn:

A Cozy Corner

The animal activist inside me is screaming "No!" — but regardless, I'm absolutely in love with sheepskin.  I mean just look at this cozy little corner featured in the September issue of Elle Decor.  Designer Gwynn Griffith must want winter house guests because why else would she publish such an inviting retreat?  The shearling covered barrel chair would be the perfect place to cozy up with my pooch and read a good book.  And don't even get me started on the John Dickinson plaster table.... I love anything with an animal paw or hoof.  Is anyone else excited for the dropping temps or am I getting ahead of myself?

A Beautiful Fall Foyer

This entryway feels like fall!  Here in Chicago, where it feels and looks more like winter, boot weather is most definitely on the way.
