Shipshape

Ok, so it's not exactly a ship, but it might as well be. This chic Hamptons home, belonging to Scott Currie, is absolutely the kind of space I'd love to spend my summer weekends.  Sea Haze colored walls with Silver Dollar trim are the perfect backdrop for the nautical accessories splashed around the room.  The space has a sense of humor (note the vintage sea captains oil painting) but the Draper chest and the edgy yellow Chinese Chippendale chairs keep the room sophisticated.  This weekend I plan to use this look for inspiration as I add a touch of summer to my own apartment.  Bon Weekend!

Yesterday I posted about Jeffrey Alan Mark's Kitchen...today I bring you the rest of his cozy Santa Monica Canyon home. With his own particular style of tailored, casual elegance, Marks has created a stunning retreat – one that epitomizes cozy California chic!

Smitten | Roberto Capucci

So pretty it deserves its own post.  While reading the March issue of Bazaar I came across this stunner.  If I lived in Philadelphia, you can bet I'd haul myself to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and seek design inspiration from the Roberto Capucci: Art into Fashion exhibit.  The exhibit celebrates the forward-thinking Italian fashion designer noted for his mastery of volume, liberation of color, and introduction of fashion as sculpture.  How striking are the layers and layers of pleats?  Smitten.

Inspired By: Timothy Whealon

This weekend in Chicago we got a beautiful little taste of fall and it was Heaven! The windows were opened all weekend and when I was walking around looking for an apartment I noticed some leaves falling. The interiors above, designed by Timothy Whealon, remind me of this amazing time of year when summer meets fall.  I think it's safe to say I love just about every interior designed by Timothy.  His impeccable eye for color, art and antiques result in a wonderful mix of sophistication with a modern approach. His use of  rich colors and fabrics make me want to embrace the cold weather with open arms.  Time to pull out the (faux) fur throw!

Inspired By | Nate Berkus

The Chicago-based designer has revamped his website just in time for the launch of his new show. I have been eagerly awaiting the reveal hoping for new photos of Nate's awe-inspiring, perfectly curated interiors. My favorite home on the new website, Mister Billy Joel's Hamptons hideaway (currently on the market). My favorite room in the house? The bathroom!  Love the brilliant punches of orange and kelly green!  Love the intricately cut pocket doors! Love the hardware! Love, love, love it all!
In the living room, the architecture of the sharply peaked wood beamed ceiling gives the feeling of a beach house but all the drama of a loft.  The living room has several seating areas and a long wall of French doors that open to an ocean side terrace.  Not your typical beach house color palette.  I like.  The mix of fabrics and textures feels really rich.
The wood floors on the second floor have been whitewashed and then given a honeycomb pattern paint treatment in a slightly darker, grayish tint - perhaps inpired by Mosaica II, a print from No. 9 Thompson.

Beside the living room is the kitchen all done over in white subway tiles with gray grout and stainless steel cabinetry.  I love a kitchen without overhead cabinetry.  The designer's passion for antiques and textiles simply seeps from every shot.  Bravo Nate, bravo!!

Modern, stylish and comfortable, the interiors of Elle Decor A-List designer Katie Lydon have me weak in the knees.   Her designs strike the perfect chord between classic and chic.

Inspired By | Eric Cohler

Three years, two apartments and five roommates later I've decided it's time to get my own place! While I'll miss having roommates (and splitting the bills) I get giddy with excitement when I think about the endless decorating opportunities to come. While searching for apartments on Craigslist this morning I bopped over to New York Social Diary hoping to find some small space inspiration. Well, as luck would have it they just posted this amazing feature on Elle Decor's A-List designer, Eric Cohler.

"A self described Bedouin, Cohler reinvents himself and his surroundings by moving every couple of years. His latest project (his 20th apartment post college) is a Beekman area, 1980’s rental that is chock-full of art and sculpture, a rare constant in his life."

Eventually I would like to own a place but until that day comes I am going to look at renting as an opportunity to reinvent myself and my surroundings. What are your thoughts on living alone and renting?

Looking into the living room, the orange sofa pops against the neutral surroundings.
Eric expanded ‘wall’ space for his art collection by hanging the pieces upon the apartment windows.
A Louis Vuitton suitcase is displayed below an oversized photograph of Mia Farrow and Frank Sinatra by Harry Benson .
A 19th century equestrian scene hangs near an oversized abstract painting found at Christie’s.
The former dining room was converted into a cozy seating area filled with books. I love how the TV seems to disappear into the bookcase.
A pair of painted Louis XVI chairs flank a small table by Eero Saarinen.
The second bedroom now functions as a den.  The small olive green velvet sofa is topped with pillows from Scalamandre.
I love the Alex Katz painting over the Cohler designed bed. The chair was recycled from the living room of his old apartment.
The custom carpet is from Royalton Carpets.
I wonder is Eric needs a roommate?  I wouldn't mind sleeping on that plush velvet sofa in the den!
